Health & Conditions
COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) is a chronic inflammatory lung disease that causes obstructed airflow from the lungs. Symptoms include breathing difficulty, cough, mucus production, and wheezing. It is most commonly caused by long-term exposure to cigarette smoke. Dr. Hsieh provides comprehensive COPD management including medication therapy, pulmonary rehabilitation referrals, and ongoing monitoring.
Common symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) include loud snoring, episodes of stopped breathing during sleep witnessed by another person, abrupt awakenings with gasping or choking, morning headaches, excessive daytime sleepiness, difficulty concentrating, and irritability. If you experience these symptoms, a sleep evaluation can determine if you have sleep apnea.

Asthma is diagnosed through a combination of medical history, physical examination, and lung function testing. Spirometry measures how much air you can exhale and how quickly. Additional tests may include bronchoprovocation testing, exhaled nitric oxide testing, and allergy testing. Dr. Hsieh can perform a thorough evaluation to determine if you have asthma and develop an appropriate treatment plan.
Pulmonary fibrosis is a condition in which the lung tissue becomes damaged and scarred, making it difficult for the lungs to work properly. Symptoms include shortness of breath, a dry cough, fatigue, and unexplained weight loss. The condition can be caused by environmental exposures, medications, autoimmune conditions, or may be idiopathic (unknown cause). Early diagnosis and management are important for slowing progression.
A lung nodule is a small growth in the lung that is typically found incidentally on a chest X-ray or CT scan. Most lung nodules are benign, but some may require monitoring or further evaluation to rule out lung cancer. Dr. Hsieh can review your imaging, assess your risk factors, and recommend appropriate follow-up, which may include repeat imaging, PET scan, or biopsy via bronchoscopy.

Interstitial lung disease (ILD) refers to a group of more than 200 disorders that cause inflammation and scarring (fibrosis) of the lung tissue surrounding the air sacs (alveoli). This scarring makes the lung interstitium thick and stiff, impairing the lungs' ability to expand fully and transfer oxygen into the bloodstream. Common causes include environmental and occupational exposures (such as asbestos, dust, or mold), autoimmune and connective tissue diseases, certain medications, and infections including COVID-19. In many cases, the cause is unknown — the most common of these is idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Symptoms typically include progressive shortness of breath, a persistent dry cough, fatigue, and in some cases, finger clubbing. Early diagnosis through pulmonary function testing, high-resolution CT imaging, and sometimes lung biopsy is important for guiding treatment and slowing disease progression. Dr. Hsieh provides comprehensive evaluation and ongoing management of interstitial lung diseases.
